Islandora can provide a robust and full-featured institutional repository solution. The following documentation inventories the range of modules and configurations that enable core institutional repository functionality in Islandora.
For a full overview of adding IR functionality to your Islandora repository, we recommend reading Islandora as an Open Source Institutional Repository Solution on the Islandora Wiki.
In brief:
- Islandora Scholar is an existing suite of modules designed to help Islandora 7 function as an Institutional Repository.
- LASIR is a Mellon-funded initiative to make strategic enhancements to Islandora Scholar and its submodules, with the end goal of creating a turnkey Islandora-based IR platform.
Preliminary research identified gaps in Scholar's coverage in the following areas: Content Discovery, Indexing, Metadata Portability; Scholar Profiles; Analytics, Readership Reports; and Self-Deposit.
LASIR's role
The LASIR project was organized around these task areas, seeking to fill in the identified gaps in five groups:
- Search Engine Optimization
- Usage/Readership Statistics
- Scholar Profiles
- Support for Self-Deposit Workflows
- Metadata Export and Data Portability
In addition, a new Wiki Page was created to provide an overview of best practices for handling IR content within Islandora.
